About the role

Robinhood is looking for a Software Engineer to build and own backend services, infrastructure and data systems supporting its core financial products. The role involves solving scalability challenges while developing a deeper understanding of US financial systems and contributing directly to products used by millions of customers.

The positions may support several teams, including Brokerage, Incentives and Identity. The roles are based in Menlo Park, California or New York City, with employees expected to work from the office at least three days per week.

Brokerage team

The Brokerage team builds infrastructure that supports trading and brokerage products. Its work enables Robinhood to launch new features, expand into additional financial services and support a growing customer base.

The team owns critical brokerage services and works closely with engineering, product and operations teams across Robinhood.

Incentives team

The Incentives team focuses on user growth and engagement through strategic incentives and shared platform capabilities. One part of the team works on increasing net deposits by testing incentive and non-incentive approaches.

Another part develops Robinhood's centralised and scalable rewards platform, which supports personalised incentives across the company.

Identity team

The Identity team protects Robinhood and its customers by preventing fraud and supporting regulatory compliance. It owns key systems for identity verification, KYC and fraud prevention across Robinhood's products.

The team works closely with Data Science, Brokerage, Crypto, Security and other functions to support product launches and international expansion.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, test and deploy scalable backend services and systems with a strong focus on long-term maintainability.
• Develop customer-facing product features and platform improvements that meet high standards for correctness and scalability.
• Identify and implement improvements in system performance, engineering productivity and risk reduction.
• Work closely with client teams, cross-functional partners and external vendors to deliver technical solutions.

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional software development experience.
• Experience delivering large technical projects in cross-functional environments.
• Strong commitment to code quality and effective code review practices.
• Good understanding of backend development, system design and the relationship between product and engineering.
• Proficiency in Go or Python.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka or similar data streaming technologies.
• Experience managing and processing large-scale datasets.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience working for a fintech company or financial institution.
• Familiarity with technologies such as Postgres, Kubernetes, Redis and AWS or similar cloud platforms.

Working model

The role is based in Robinhood's Menlo Park or New York City offices. Employees are expected to attend the office at least three days per week.

Compensation and benefits

In addition to base salary, the role is eligible for bonus opportunities, equity and employee benefits. Compensation depends on factors including education, training, experience, location, business requirements and market conditions.

For Zone 1 locations including Menlo Park, New York, Bellevue and Washington, DC, the expected base salary range is USD 166,000 to USD 195,000.

For Zone 2 locations including Denver, Westlake and Chicago, the expected base salary range is USD 147,000 to USD 172,000.

For Zone 3 locations including Lake Mary, Clearwater and Gainesville, the expected base salary range is USD 130,000 to USD 152,000.
