ComplyCube launches Custom Risk Engine for configurable AML scoring
ComplyCube has launched Custom Risk Engine, a tool that automates AML customer risk scoring using each firm's own approved methodology. The solution allows businesses to define risk factors, weightings and thresholds instead of relying on a fixed scoring model provided by a vendor.
The product is aimed at firms that already have established risk assessment frameworks but still apply them through spreadsheets or predefined external scoring models. ComplyCube says the engine is designed to make risk-based due diligence more consistent and easier to trace across the customer base.
Firms can apply their own AML risk methodology
Custom Risk Engine supports four risk levels, from low to very high. Firms can configure factors, weightings and thresholds according to their own approved policies and risk models.
High-impact signals, such as a sanctions match, can be built into the methodology without being offset by lower-risk indicators. This allows firms to reflect the structure of their existing AML controls more accurately in automated scoring.
Audit trails record how risk decisions are made
The engine maintains an audit trail for each risk decision. It records the factors that contributed to the rating, supporting evidence and any override made by a compliance officer together with the reason for that decision.
Risk assessments can also be recalculated when customer information changes. This means the score does not need to remain fixed at the point of onboarding and can be updated as new information becomes available.
New risk models can be applied to existing customers
When a firm changes its risk methodology, it can publish a new version and apply it to its current customer base. Previous evidence, decisions and overrides are retained.
This gives compliance teams a record of how earlier assessments were produced and how later methodology changes affected customer risk ratings.
Risk scoring connects with verification and monitoring
Custom Risk Engine can operate alongside ComplyCube's existing identity verification, screening and monitoring tools. These include biometric and document verification, sanctions screening, politically exposed person checks and continuous monitoring.
The engine links customer risk assessments with data generated by these compliance processes. It is designed to automate scoring while preserving human oversight and allowing firms to implement their own approved AML policies through configurable logic.
