Danske Bank pilots MCP Server for corporate access to banking data through AI agents
Danske Bank has launched a pilot that allows corporate customers to connect AI agents such as Claude and ChatGPT to their banking data. The project uses a Model Context Protocol, or MCP, Server connected to the bank's Premium APIs.
The solution allows companies to access their own financial information from an AI assistant of their choice. Access remains based on the customer's own credentials and under its control.
A new channel for accessing corporate banking data
The pilot adds another way for corporate customers to interact with banking information alongside online banking and traditional API integrations. Through the MCP Server, an AI agent can retrieve live information from Danske Bank's Premium APIs and use it to answer questions inside the assistant.
Customers can, for example, ask for an account balance or request a cashflow forecast for the coming months. The response is generated by the AI assistant using current financial data made available through the bank's APIs.
Sandra Schaldemose Sommerlund, Tribe Lead of Customer & Sector Integration at Danske Bank, said the initiative is intended to give customers more choice over how and where they interact with the bank and their financial information. The project is also part of Danske Bank's Forward '28 strategy, which focuses on making services available inside the tools customers already use.
APIs and AI agents could simplify financial administration
Danske Bank presents the pilot as a response to the operational complexity of corporate financial administration. Many processes have traditionally required users to log into several systems and combine information collected through batch-based processes.
The bank sees APIs and agentic AI as part of a shift toward faster access to financial data and more tailored responses. Instead of manually moving between banking systems, companies may be able to request information directly through an AI interface connected to live banking infrastructure.
Danske Bank joins a broader MCP trend in financial services
The pilot builds on Danske Bank's existing Premium API infrastructure and comes as the Model Context Protocol gains broader attention in financial services. MCP is designed to provide a standard way for AI tools to connect with external systems and data sources.
Other financial technology providers are also experimenting with this model. In 2026, Belvo launched three MCP servers that allow AI agents to connect directly with its ecosystem for integration support, financial data analysis and data access.
AI is becoming a larger part of Danske Bank's technology strategy
Danske Bank serves corporate and institutional customers across the Nordic region. The MCP Server pilot is part of a wider programme of generative AI and technology investment at the bank.
According to Danske Bank, more than 30% of its applications have been migrated to the public cloud since 2023. The bank has also introduced AI tools across advisory, credit, customer service and software development.
By 2028, Danske Bank expects AI and related technology initiatives to generate annual productivity benefits of around DKK 2 billion. At the same time, annual investment in core technology and AI-enabled platforms is expected to increase from approximately EUR 535 million to EUR 601 million.
