Ebury expands Form3 partnership to support instant payments in Canada

Ebury, a financial services firm serving businesses, is expanding its partnership with account-to-account payments technology provider Form3. The partnership is intended to enable Ebury to offer instant payments in Canada through the country’s new Real-Time Rail (RTR).

Form3 will connect Ebury to the RTR. This will allow the company to provide instant payments and cross-border transaction services to its corporate clients in Canada. Founded in 2009, Ebury offers businesses payment services, foreign exchange and currency risk management.

Canada’s RTR will launch in phases

The Real-Time Rail is a new Canadian real-time payment system covering exchange, clearing and settlement. It is operated by Payments Canada, and its rollout is planned in several phases. The initial launch is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026, with additional participants expected to join in stages during 2027.

Ebury plans to use Form3’s platform to join the RTR during the successive rollout stages in 2027. Mike Walters, CEO and Co-founder of Form3, said the RTR marks Canada’s move into instant payments. He added that the system was modelled on solutions in the UK and the US, giving Canada an advantage as a later adopter.

According to Walters, Canadian banks and fintech companies are looking for partners with experience in the UK and US markets to help them introduce instant payments. Form3 aims to bring that experience to the RTR rollout.

Building on an existing partnership

Form3 already connects Ebury to the UK’s Faster Payments Service and Europe’s SEPA schemes. Ebury went live with Form3 on Faster Payments in 2018.

In June 2026, Ebury also became a member of Payments Canada, gaining direct access to the country’s core payment systems. These include the Automated Clearing Settlement System (ACSS), the Lynx high-value payment system and the RTR once it becomes operational.

Mike Malak, Country Manager at Ebury Canada, said the company’s experience with Form3 in the UK and Europe made it a natural partner for instant payments in Canada. He added that Form3’s platform allows Ebury to add a new payment rail while meeting regulatory requirements.

Form3 processes around five billion transactions a year for more than 40 customers. They include J.P. Morgan, Barclays, Santander and Klarna.
