ING and Gigs launch travel eSIM in the ING app in the Netherlands
ING has partnered with US-based embedded mobile services provider Gigs to offer customers global mobile data directly through the bank’s app. The ING eSIM has launched in the Netherlands. The bank plans to introduce it in Poland, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Spain, Romania, Türkiye, and Australia.
Customers install the eSIM once in the app and can buy new data bundles for later trips. They do not need to purchase a local SIM card or rely on a roaming plan.
eSIM included in ING subscription tiers
The service is part of ING’s new tiered subscription model, which combines everyday banking with additional benefits. The bank is extending its offering beyond financial products with a service for customers travelling abroad, available in the app they already use to manage their money.
In the Netherlands, the eSIM is available in ING Go, More, Extra, Max, and Student packages. The bank introduced these packages in June 2026. Customers can monitor their data usage in the ING app.
Sali Salieski, Global Head of Private Individuals Banking at ING, said customers want banking to be simple, flexible, and suited to their lifestyles. She added that the ING eSIM makes it easier to stay connected while travelling and extends the convenience customers already get from the bank’s app.
Gigs provides connectivity in more than 160 countries
Based in San Francisco, Gigs provides a platform that enables banks, travel companies, and technology firms to offer mobile services through their own apps. Its clients include Revolut, Klarna, Cash App, and Motorola. For ING, Gigs provides mobile data coverage in more than 160 countries.
ING Go customers can buy data bundles when they need them. Student and More customers receive 1 GB of travel data per year, while higher-tier packages include larger allowances.
Hermann Frank, Founder and CEO of Gigs, said mobile connectivity has become as fundamental as a bank account. He noted that staying connected abroad has often meant downloading another travel app or paying roaming fees. By adding connectivity to its app, ING lets customers access global data where they already manage their money, removing one concern when they travel.
