Newland and Aevi simplify Android SmartPOS deployments
Newland Payment Technology and Aevi have formed a partnership to help payment providers deploy Android SmartPOS devices more easily. The companies are combining Newland’s range of terminals with Aevi’s in-person payment orchestration platform. Providers will be able to support different device types through one integration and one payment application.
One integration for multiple devices
The range includes countertop and mobile terminals, as well as self-service and unattended devices. These can be used at a retail counter, on a fuel forecourt or at a self-service kiosk. Banks, merchants and independent software vendors (ISVs) can use the solution.
Supporting many customer touchpoints and payment methods often requires separate integration and certification work. Each new combination of device and payment method can increase launch time and cost. Under the partnership, Aevi’s application and Newland’s Android devices can be certified as a family for each acquirer connection and payment method. This reduces the additional certification work required when a provider adds another supported device.
Choice of devices and acquirers
Clients can build one integration to serve multiple markets. They can select supported Newland devices and acquiring connections available through Aevi, while meeting local requirements and supporting local payment methods.
Harry Sahota, Head of Strategic Partnerships at Aevi, noted that adding new terminals can involve substantial integration and certification work. This can delay launches and limit the available choice. According to Sahota, the partnership reduces this complexity and lets clients meet different merchant needs through a single integration.
Alan Moss, General Manager, Europe at Newland Payment Technology, said that different merchant settings call for different devices. A compact terminal may suit a checkout, mobile devices can support staff, and an unattended terminal can serve a self-service kiosk. A single integration and family certification are intended to reduce the effort required to add devices as merchant needs change.
Paul Snelling, SVP Product and Solutions at Aevi, said that years of market consolidation have forced merchants to choose between simplicity and wider choice. They could accept a limited number of acquiring options or manage multiple integrations across markets and customer touchpoints. According to Snelling, the partnership simplifies the setup for technology teams while preserving choice for procurement teams.
Newland has been active in the market for more than three decades. The company has deployed over 100 million terminals across more than 120 countries and regions.
