Vipps MobilePay partners with Rootline to reach platform merchants
Vipps MobilePay has partnered with Rootline to make its payment method available to merchants on platforms that use Rootline’s infrastructure.
As part of the partnership, Rootline integrated the payment method directly into its platform using Vipps MobilePay’s new PSP API. The integration supports different payment settings, from online stores to in-person events such as festivals. Platforms that process payments through Rootline can now offer Vipps MobilePay to all their merchants without requiring each merchant to sign a separate agreement.
Platform payments and the one-to-many model
Rootline provides payment infrastructure to platforms that serve large numbers of merchants. This differs from the model used by many payment service providers (PSPs), which mainly handle one-to-one transactions between a business and its customers. Rootline’s infrastructure is designed for platform payments, where one platform can provide payment services to hundreds or thousands of merchants.
For Vipps MobilePay, this structure means a single technical integration can open access to a broad merchant base. Vegar Heir, Chief Commercial Officer at Vipps, said the company aims to make its service available in as many places and payment situations as possible. This requires the payment method to be offered through platforms and payment providers that businesses already use. The Rootline integration gives Vipps MobilePay a way to reach many merchants through one connection.
The PSP API supports this distribution model. Instead of adding merchants one at a time, Vipps MobilePay can expand acceptance through intermediaries that already have established merchant networks.
Event commerce as an early use case
Preo, a commerce solutions provider for festivals and events, is among the platforms using Rootline. One of the events it serves is Kulturnatten in Copenhagen, Denmark. Over a single weekend in October 2026, 20,000 MobilePay payments were processed there through Rootline. The figure shows the transaction volume the integration can handle in a live event setting.
Thimo Bosma, Head of Product at Rootline, said the collaboration ran smoothly and Vipps MobilePay went live on the platform in less than a month.
Earlier in 2026, Rootline also integrated PayPal into its infrastructure, adding PayPal as a payment option at checkout.
