Hub2 connects 200 million mobile wallets to the pan-African banking network Ecobank
HUB2 has announced a strategic partnership with Ecobank Transnational Incorporated to develop digital payments in Africa. Although digital finance is rapidly growing in popularity, payment systems on the continent remain fragmented, requiring businesses—especially SMEs—to integrate with multiple platforms across different markets. This often slows down expansion and increases operating costs. The new partnership aims to address these challenges by simplifying cross-border payments and increasing interoperability.
Through this collaboration, the Hub2 network, which covers over 200 million mobile wallets, will be connected to Ecobank's banking infrastructure in 32 African markets, creating a single, seamless gateway for merchants, fintech companies, and money transfer providers to efficiently transfer funds. The partnership provides a single API interface, faster settlements, greater interoperability, and secure and low-cost transactions, enabling businesses to operate across borders with reduced friction.
The initial phase of implementation will focus on the UEMOA and CEMAC regions, strengthening regional trade and accelerating the development of e-commerce in key markets, including Côte d'Ivoire, Senegal, Togo, Cameroon, Benin, Burkina Faso, and Mali. Hub2 expressed its gratitude to the Ecobank team for their trust and cooperation, emphasizing that together they are building a more connected African payment ecosystem.
