Sudan is introducing USSD banking services to expand access to online financial services
Sudan’s Ministry of Digital Transformation and Communications has announced the launch of USSD-based banking services in collaboration with the Central Bank of Sudan and the Communications and Postal Regulatory Authority. This initiative, led by Eng. Ahmed Dardery, Minister of Digital Transformation and Telecommunications, will be launched next week and aims to provide citizens with convenient access to financial services via mobile phones, even in areas without internet access or where the use of mobile banking apps is difficult during peak hours.
The first phase of the services will include basic banking functions, such as peer-to-peer transfers, credit checks, and transaction statements. By leveraging the widespread use of mobile phones, the ministry aims to expand the scope of digital financial services, promote financial inclusion, and support programs targeting families across Sudan.
The Ministry emphasized that this initiative is being implemented in close cooperation with partners from the telecommunications and banking sectors. Service providers will announce operational details and specific offerings based on their areas of expertise. This step reflects Sudan’s ongoing efforts to establish a robust organizational and technical framework for digital finance.
